LADY HORNETS TIP-OFF MEAC PLAY WITH MON. CONTEST AT COPPIN STATE

The Game
Delaware State tips off its pandemic affected 2020-21 MEAC schedule with two games in two days at Coppin State. The Lady Hornets' MEAC schedule this season will only include games against fellow North Division members CSU, Morgan State and Howard. DSU has been idle since a 69-46 road loss to George Mason on Dec. 21. The Lady Hornets were plagued by poor shooting in the contest, hitting just 18 of their 64 shots from the floor (28.1%), including four-of-21 on three-point attempts (19.0%). Naomi Shorts, playing in her first game of the season, was the only double-figure scorer for Delaware State with 12 points off the bench in the George Mason contest. Ashley Primas, also making her season debut, came off the bench to score six points and tie for the team lead with seven rebounds in the last outing. Sha Collins (sr.), a Preseason All-MEAC Second Team selection, is the team scoring leader at 12.0 points per game. She also tops the team with five three-point field goals. Janasia Law (sr.) averages 8.7 points per game and leads the Lady Hornets with seven assists. Zoe Holmes (sr.) is DSU's leading rebounder at 8.0 per game. She had a team season-high 10 boards vs. Rider in the season opener (Dec. 5). As a team, Delaware State is averaging 53.0 points per game on 33.5% shooting this season. The Lady Hornets do enjoy  a rebound advantage over their opponents this season, averaging 38.7 boards per game compared to 37.7 for the opposition through three games this year.              

Coppin State has played just twice season, opening the year with an 84-45 loss at Penn State on Nov. 25 before its second game 33 days later, a 75-49 setback at home against La Salle. Aliyah Lawson (jr.) is the team's top scorer at 13.5 points per game. Tyree Allen (so.) is second on the team with an 8.0 ppg average, while Rebecca Wilson (so.) has a team-high 13 rebounds to average 6.5 per game. 
             
DSU vs Coppin State Series History  
The Hornets and Eagles have met a total of 70 times over the years, with Coppin State holding a 41-29 series lead. Delaware State swept two meetings between the teams during the 2019-20 campaign, winning the first contest 72-55 in Dover, Del., and completing the sweep with a 71-66 victory later in the season in Baltimore, Md. The season sweep was DSU's first against the Eagles since the 2002-03 campaign. In last season's contest at Coppin State, the Lady Hornets hit their first  eight shots and 10-of-13 in the first quarter to highlight the victory. DSU's 76.9% first quarter shooting percentage in the game marked a school record for a quarter. DSU also shot a season-high 55.3% for the game (26-for-47), highlighted by a .667 mark in the first half (14-21). Sha Collins (sr.) led a balanced DSU scoring attack with 19 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field (2-3 3ptFGs) and 5-of-5 at the free throw line. Collins also led all players with five assists. Demi Moore (sr.) hit five of her seven field goal attempts and was perfect on two shots from the free throw line to contribute 12 points to the win. The Hornets and Eagles are scheduled to meet again on Feb. 6-7 at DSU.
