LADY HORNETS FALL IN MEAC TOURNAMENT HEARTBREAKER

Norfolk, Va. (Mar. 12) --- The Delaware State Lady Hornets lose in the quarterfinals of the MEAC Tournament to the Morgan State Bears 64-63. In what will be the final MEAC Tournament game of the year (and final game of the entire NCAA basketball season), due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is the Lady Hornets seventh straight MEAC tournament loss. Their last win was in 2013 when they defeated Bethune Cookman 55-44.

The last game of the year had ten lead changes and ten ties.

Morgan State's Chelsea Mitchell is fouled with 8 seconds left; she misses both free throws. Lady Hornets forward Tierra Floyd grabs the defensive rebound, outlets the pass to Sharajah Collins, Collins drives to the rim and gets called for a charge with under two seconds left.

With just under 24 left, Collins drives into the lane but misses the layup, DeMaurea Moore grabs the offensive rebound but she cannot convert either. Morgan State finally grabs a rebound and calls timeout.

With 26 seconds left Tierra Floyd pump fakes at the three-point line and drives to the basket, she hits the layup despite being fouled. The basket cuts the deficit to just one at 64-63. Tierra Floyd misses the ensuing free throw but Sharajah Collins gets the offensive rebound. The Lady Hornets call a timeout.

Morgan State takes a 64-61 lead as Chelsea Mitchell scores despite the foul and converts the free throw.

With 51 seconds left DSU forward DeMaurea Moore hits both free throws to tie the game at 61.

DeMaurea Moore hits one of two free throws cutting the deficit to two with 1:06 left in the game.

With 1:29 remaining Dahnye Reed hits a jumper, increasing the Bears lead to 61-58. Reed finishes with a game high 24 points; she also adds seven rebounds in the contest.

At the 2:42 mark Morgan State's Dahnye Redd hits two free throws giving MSU a one-point lead.

On the previous possession Janasia Law hits another jumper from around free-throw line area, giving DSU a 58-57 lead with 3:09 remaining in the game.

Dahnye Redd answers back with a layup for Morgan State at the 3:27 mark, as they retake a 57-56 lead.

Tierra Floyd ties the game up as Floyd grabs the offensive rebound and flips it up and in despite the foul. Floyd hits the free-throw giving DSU a 56-55 lead with 3:36 remaining.

Bears' Dezyree Morals hits a jumper giving Morgan State a 55-53 lead with 4:43 left in the game.

With 6:22 left, Morgan State's Jihayah Chavis finds a wide open Dezyree Morals for the layup, tying the game at 53.

Janasia Law hits another midrange jumper to put the Lady Hornets back in front by two with 6:31 remaining.

At the 7:13 mark Dahnye Reed ties the game up with a layup.

With 8:34 left in the fourth quarter, Chelsea Mitchell hits a three-pointer for Morgan State cutting the deficit to just two.

Law finds a cutting Tierra Floyd for an open layup, DSU leads 51-46 with 8:40 remaining in the game.

DeMaurea Moore sets a screen for Janasia Law who uses it to free herself up for the midrange jumper, early in the fourth quarter.

After a jumper from the Bears' Dawn Gipson to start the half, DSU guard Lanayjha Ashe ties the game up with a layup.   The Lady Hornets briefly lead by two after Janasia Law converts on both her free throws.

The Bears responds with a 5-0 run, including a jumper from Sydney Searcy, which gives MSU a 35-32 lead with 7:18 in the third quarter.

At the 5:44 mark Lanayjha Ashe hits a left-handed hook shot tying the game at 35.

Ashe finds Floyd for a jumper, just inside the three-point line, putting DSU up 37-36 with 4:19 remaining.

The lead continues to go back and forth, as Ashe dishes the ball to DeMaurea Moore for the layup giving DSU a 41-40 lead.

On the next DSU possession Law kicks the ball to Lanayjha Ashe who hits the three.

Law dishes the ball to Melissa Sam for the layup, extending their lead to 46-40 with 39 seconds left.

Dahnye Redd puts a halt to DSU's 7-0 run with a midrange jumper.

After a free throw from Janasia Law with 4 seconds remaining, Morgan State's Kamaree Donald finds Sydney Searcy for a layup, cutting the DSU lead to just 47-44 heading into the fourth quarter.

At the 7:01 mark of the second quarter, Naomi Shorts dishes the ball to Melissa Sam who buries a three-pointer, once again giving DSU a lead, this time at 19-17.  After a 4-0 run from the bears to retake a 21-19 lead, DSU responds with  a jumper from Miajah Bullock, and on the following possession Lanayjha Ashe steals the ball at half-court and scores a layup on the solo Fastbreak giving DSU a 23-21 lead with 4:40 left in the half.

Morgan State responds with 7-0, Dahnye Redd caps off the run with a jumper with 1:55 remaining. DSU forward Tierra Floyd ends the run by hitting two free throws, cutting the deficit to three. 

The Lady Hornets convert on three more free throws, including Janasia Law making both of her attempts just before the end of the quarter, tying the game at 28 as the head into halftime.

Morgan State responds with a 14-6 run. A layup from Chelsea Mitchell gives the Bears a 14-8 lead with 4:15 left in the quarter.

DSU guard Lyric Turner breaks the run by nailing a three-pointer, cutting the deficit in half.  Turner and DeMaurea Moore converts 4-4 from the free throw line. Moore's free throws at the 2:12 mark gives DSU a 15-14 lead.

Delaware State shoots 20-of-53 (37.7%) from the field, including 3-of-14 (21.4%) on three-point attempts.

Tierra Floyd leads four Lady Hornets in scoring with 13 points, she also adds nine rebounds and two steals.

Lanayjha Ashe tallies 12 points, three assists, three rebounds and one steal.

Janasia Law records 11 points, three rebounds and two rebounds.

DeMaurea Moore scores 10 points, grabs nine rebounds and records one block and one steal.
