Buies Creek, N.C. (Mar. 11, 2020) --- Delaware State posted its second-highest scoring output of the season, but it was not enough in a 17-9 loss to Campbell today.
Julianna Sanchez had four goals and an assist, while Megan Matthews recorded six points in three goals and three assists to lead the Camels.
Gwenna Gentle had three goals and an assist to top the scoresheet for Delaware State.
Nina Dillard added two goals for the Hornets.
Sanchez scored the first two goals of the game 88 seconds into the contest.
Delaware State got on the board when
Mia Moseley scored off an assist from Gentle with 27:43 left in the opening period.
The Camels answered with six straight goals to open up an 8-1 lead. Matthews and Ally Heath tallied two goals each during the spurt.
Delaware State (1-5) ended the CU rally when
Tamrin Swann scored on a free position shot to cut Campbell's lead to 8-2 with 14:55 remaining in the period.
The Hornets trailed 10-2 when Dillard scored her first goal of the game at the 7:33 mark of the first half to cut the Camels' lead to 10-3 at the break.
Campbell (2-7) led 13-3 when DSU put together a three-goal spurt to keep the deficit in single digits. Gentle scored twice and Dillard posted her second goal of the game during the rally.
Gentle scored two more second period goals, while
Jordan Santana and
Jasmine West also tickled the net in the second period.
Delaware State was outshot 56-18 in the game.
