Princess Anne, MD. (Feb 29.) --- The Delaware State Lady Hornets fall to the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks 68-53. The Lady Hornets drop to 12-15 overall and 8-6 in the MEAC.
Delaware State forward DeMaurea Moore grabs the offensive rebound and kicks it out to Tierra Floyd for a three-pointer to start the game. Maryland Eastern Shore's Adrienne Jones answers back with a three of her own.
On the next possession Lanayjha Ashe passes the ball to Janasia law who drills a mid-range shot. A few minutes later Ashe misses the jumper, grabs the offensive rebound and scores the put back despite the foul. She converts the free-throw to complete the three-point play, giving DSU an 8-3 lead with 6:43 left in the first quarter.
Adrienne Jones responds again drilling a three-pointer while being fouled, she hits the free throw completing the four-point play.
Maryland Eastern Shore briefly takes a 9-8 lead after a layup from Brooklyn Bailey with 4:16 remaining.
On the following possession DSU forward Melissa Sam grabs the offensive rebound and scores on a put back. The next time down the floor DeMaurea Moore hits the midrange jumper, pushing the DSU lead to 12-9 with 2:25 left in the quarter.
At the 1:24 mark Delaware State leads 15-12 after, Naomi Shorts finds Melissa Sam open for three.
The Lady Hornets maintain a three-point lead as Naomi Shorts steals the ball from Hawks guard Mya Thomas and scores on the fast break layup with 9:44 left in the second quarter.
Delaware State lead by as many as five points in the quarter after Miajah Bullock splits a pair at the free throw line with 4:03 remaining in the half. Â However, Hawks guard Amanda Carney buries a three-pointer with :08 seconds left in the quarter to take a 28-26 lead heading into halftime.
There are two lead changes and three ties in the third quarter alone, including Tierra Floyd tying the game after a layup with 4:17 left in the third.
Unfortunately for the Lady Hornets the Hawks end the third on an 8-2 run, in large part due to Amanda Carney who hits back to back threes' late in the quarter. Carney's accurate shooting gives Maryland Eastern Shore a 46-40 lead entering the fourth quarter. Carney finishes the game with 12 points and two steals.
Maryland Eastern Shore opens the fourth on a 10-3 run, Adrienne Jones caps of the flurry with a three-pointer extending their lead to 56-43 with 6:02 left in the game.
The Lady Hornets never recovered; the Hawks led by as many as 17 points in the quarter.
Delaware State shoots just 17-of-51 (33.3%) including 7-of-27 (25.9%) on their three-point attempts.
Tierra Floyd leads the team with 13 points and seven rebounds. The only other Lady Hornet in double digits is Lyric Turner who records 10 points.
Maryland Eastern Shore makes 26-of-54 (48.1%) of their field goals, and a red hot 9-of-18 (50.0%) from beyond the arc.
Adrienne Jones tallies a game high 18 points and seven rebounds for the Hawks. Brooklyn Bailey adds 11 points.

Delaware State will be hosting Norfolk State on Monday for senior night, as Genell Addison, Lanayjha Ashe and Tierra Floyd will compete at home for the final time of their collegiate careers.
