HORNETS CONTINUE ROAD SWING WITH SUN. CONTEST AT GA. TECH

Delaware State (0-2) makes its second stop of a three-game road swing, visiting Georgia Tech of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Hornets opened the trip with a 99-73 loss to Coastal Carolina on Thursday. Coastal Carolina used a strong second half performance to send DSU to its second loss in two games. The Hornets, playing for the first time since Nov. 26, only trailed 44-39 at the half, but were outscored 55-34 in the final 20 minutes to fall to 0-2 on the season. Pinky Wiley was high scorer for Delaware State for the second straight game with 19 points, highlighted by six-for-six shooting from the free throw line. Omari Peek-Green, playing in his first game this season, was second on the Hornets with 14 points off the bench. Peek-Green matched his career-high with four three-point field goals (4-6) in the game. Freshman guard Martaz Robinson added 12 points, reaching double figures in each of his two collegiate contests. Myles Carter, also making his season debut, came off the bench to tally 10 points for the Hornets. The Hornets outscored Coastal 33-15 in bench points. There were six ties and seven lead changes in the first half. Delaware State trailed 24-18 midway through the half before rallying to take the lead. Peek-Green capped off a 12-3 DSU run with a three-pointer to give the Hornets a 30-27 lead with 5:03 to go before halftime. The score was tied for the sixth time in the half, 35-35, on another three by Peek-Green with 1:50 to go before the break. Coastal Carolina outscored DSU 9-4 to close out the half. The Hornets only trailed 45-41 before the Chanticleers scored 20 of the next 25 points to open up a 65-46 lead. Delaware State could get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way, while Coastal held its biggest lead 99-68 in the last two minutes. 
 
Georgia Tech has won three of its last four games, including a 74-64 victory over Delaware State's fellow MEAC member Florida A&M on Friday. Forward Moses Wright led four Georgia Tech double-figure scorers with a game-high 24 points on nine-for-17 shooting from the field and six-of-eight at the free throw line in the contest. Wright is the Yellow Jackets' top scorer this season at 20.2 points per game. He's also the team's leading rebounder at 8.0 per contest. Jose Alvarado is Georgia Tech's second leading scorer with a 14.8 point per game average.  
 
Series History     
This will be the fourth meeting between the Hornets and Yellow Jackets. The three previous contests were also hosted by Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets won the first meeting 84-63 in 1997. James DuBose was head coach of the Hornets during the first contest in the series. The teams also met in 2011 and 2013, while Greg Jackson was Delaware State's head coach. Georgia Tech posted a 70-52 win over DSU in the second meeting of the series. The 2013 contest was also won by the Yellow Jackets, 68-50.
