HORNETS WINLESS IN SEASON OPENING ROAD SWING

Staten Island, N.Y. (Aug. 25, 2019) --- Wagner scored four second period goals to break open a close match in a 5-0 women's soccer victory over Delaware State today. Maria Nunez led the Seahawks (1-1) with two goals in the contest. The Hornets fell to 0-2.

Wagner opened the scoring with an unassisted goal by Julia Fitzsimmons in the 14th minute. Delaware goal keeper Franchesska Ramirez recorded three first period saves to prevent further damage by the Seahawks.

Wagner opened up a 2-0 lead early in the second period (50th minute) on a free kick by Nunuz for her first goal of the contest.

The Seahawks scored their third goal of the game when a shot deflected off a Delaware State defender and into the net in the 61st minute.

Wagner pulled ahead 4-0 on a header by Lisa Barone off a feed from Starr Madison in the 68th minute and Nunez tallied her second goal of the goal in the 77th minute to close out the scoring.

The Seahawks outshot the Hornets 17-5.

Wagner goalie Delaney Beck recorded two saves to earn the shutout win.

Ramirez was credited with six saves for DSU.

The Hornets will play their home opener on Thur. (Aug. 29) against VMI. The match is set for 4:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
