HORNETS BLANKED BY EAGLES IN HOME OPENER

Dover, Del. (Sep. 5, 2018) --- American used a balanced hitting attack in a 3-0 shutout of Delaware State in the Hornets' 2018 home opener in Memorial Hall this evening. The scores were 25-20, 25-15 and 25-19.

Aleksandra Kazala, Helena Elbeak and Vela McBride recorded 10 kills each to lead the Eagles, which posted a .424 attack percentage in the match. American (4-4) recorded 45 total kills and committed just nine errors on 85 attempts. AU setter Olivia Wassner led all players with 30 assists.


Mayah Ngundam led Delaware State with six kills, while freshman Milexa Cardona recorded a team-high 21 assists. DSU's Mia Taula tied for match-high honors with eight kills.


Delaware State (0-8) recorded a season-high hitting percentage and season-low for errors in the contest. The Hornets tallied 25 kills and 12 errors on 66 attempts for a season-best .197 attack percentage.


DSU returns to the road for its next nine matches, beginning with an appearance at the North Carolina A&T Tournament this weekend. The Hornets will face North Carolina A&T,

UNC-Greensboro and Winthrop during the two-day invitational.
