STEVE IEZZI APPOINTED TO TOP DSU ATHLETIC TRAINING POST

Dover, Del. (Dec. 18, 2018) --- Delaware State University has announced the appointment of Steven J. Iezzi (IZZ-ee) as the University's Assistant Athletics Director for Athletic Training. Iezzi brings more than 15 years of collegiate athletics and professional football training to the Hornets.

Prior to accepting the Delaware State post, the Coatesville, Pa., native was Head Athletic Trainer/Director of Rehabilitation at Cheyney (Pa.) University since Jan. 2016. In addition to developing and implementing injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation programs for all Cheyney sports, he was primary trainer for the Wolves' football, volleyball, women's basketball, and track and field teams.   

Since March 2006, Iezzi has also served as a part-time member of the NFL Philadelphia Eagles' athletic training staff.  His responsibilities with the Eagles include training camp coverage, assisting in daily treatment and rehabilitation of injured players, along with serving as game-day training liaison for visiting teams.

From Feb. 2006 to Jan. 2016, Iezzi was Head Athletic Trainer at Unionville (Pa.) High School.

His professional background also includes experience as an Athletic Trainer at Chester County (Pa.) Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy, and Premier Orthopedic Association.

“Steve stood out among an outstanding field of candidates for our head trainer position,” said DSU Associate Director of Athletic and Senior Woman Administrator Alecia Shields-Gadson, who lead the candidate search. “His multi-level experience, extensive knowledge, and most important, a commitment and desire to provide the best, most comprehensive care and services available today will greatly benefit our student-athletes and teams.

Iezzi received a bachelor's in Movement Studies and Exercise Science from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2002 and a master's in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from California University of Pa., in 2012.

“I'm grateful to Delaware State for the opportunity to further my career at a growing institution with tremendous potential in its athletics programs,” said Iezzi. “I'm looking forward to working with the university and athletics leadership, along with our student-athletes, coaches, area medical professionals and my staff to build a top-notch athletic training program at DSU.”

Iezzi is a member of the National Trainers Organization (NATA) and Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society. He's also a Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist and Certified National Association of Speed and Explosion Specialist.
