HORNETS FALL TO SPARTANS IN MEAC THRILLER

Norfolk, Va. (Nov. 4, 2018) --- Delaware State led after the first and third sets, but Norfolk State bounced back for a 3-2 win over the Hornets in a MEAC match this afternoon.

DSU won the first set 25-22, but Norfolk State evened the match with a 27-25 victory in set two. The Hornets regained the lead with a 25-15 win in the third set, but the Spartans won set four 25-18 to force a deciding fifth set. NSU won 15-9 in set five to complete a season sweep of the Hornets and improved to 4-16 overall and 3-6 in the MEAC. Delaware State fell to 2-25 and 0-8.

Caroline Rakoski (fr.) led the Hornets with a career-high 19 kills on 39 attempts (.385).

Devin Ruble (fr.) added 16 kills and contributed 16 digs, one short of her career-high. DSU's Milexa Cardona (fr.) led all players with a personal-best 46 assists and added 11 digs.

Delaware State's Nia Scott (fr.) recorded a match-high 18 digs.

Norfolk State had four players with double-figures in kills, led by Anna Rupertova with 15.

The Hornets had a better attack percentage in the match. DSU had 58 kills and 25 errors on 164 attacks for a .201 percentage.

The Spartans posted a .198 hitting percentage, tallying 62 kills and 29 errors on 167 attempts.

Delaware State also held a 67-62 advantage in digs.

The Hornets will wrap up their season with two home matches next weekend, beginning with a visit by Morgan State next Friday (Nov. 9) at 6:00 p.m. DSU will close out the season against Coppin State on Nov. 11 at 3:00 p.m.
