WAGNER RALLIES FOR W SOC WIN OVER HORNETS

Staten Island, N.Y. (Oct. 19, 2018) --- Wagner scored two goals in a three-minute span of the second period to defeat Delaware State 2-1 in a women's soccer contest Friday evening.

All of the scoring came in the second period.

Delaware State drew first blood nearly 50 minutes into the match when Alyssa Coustenis fired a shot past Wagner goal keeper Delany Beck off a feed from Jade Jamison for her first goal as a Hornet.

DSU held onto the lead for nearly 18 minutes when the Seahawks evened up the score. Le'la Allen netted the tying goal when she beat Hornet goalie Leslie Fazio on a one-one move in the 58th minute.

Wagner needed less than three minutes to break the tie. Maria Nunez scored the go-ahead goal with an assist from Mya Donnelly in the 71st minute.

The Hornets only had one shot attempt after falling behind, but failed to connect.

Wagner outshot Delaware State 20-11 and the Seahawks held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal.

The Hornets return to action with a match at Penn on Monday (Oct. 22). The contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Philadelphia.
