W Soc: HORNETS COME UP SHORT AT UMBC, 3-1

Baltimore, Md. (Sep. 18, 2016) --- Delaware State's hopes for a comeback win were short-lived in a 3-1 loss to UMBC today. The Hornets trailed 2-0 when Braxton Clark (fr.) scored on DSU's lone shot-on-goal of the game to cut the Retrievers' lead to one in the 68th minute (67:42).

The Hornets' celebration lasted just 46 seconds as UMBC answered with an insurance score to regain a two-goal lead.

The match was scoreless until UMBC's Gabby Boehmer fired a shot past DSU goal keeper Michele Lammers in the 27th minute.

Lammers had six saves in the opening period to help keep the Hornets in the match.

The Retrievers stretched their lead to 2-0 when Boehmer scored her second goal of the match on a header past Hornet keeper Leslie Fazio in the 57th minute (56:07).

The Hornets pulled to within 2-1 on Braxton's unassisted goal. Clark has a goal in each of the last two matches, and is tied with Kayleigh Leschinski for the team lead with two scores.

UMBC's Virginia Moyer put her team ahead 3-1 on a shot past Fazio less than a minute later. Fazio did record five saves in the second period for the Hornets.

DSU was outshot 30-8 in the contest.

The Hornets return to action on Wed. (Sep. 21) at home against Marist. The match begins at 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
