(Dover, Del.) – Thursday afternoon, the Delaware State women's soccer team (2-8-1) nearly secured its second road victory of the season, but the Saint Peter's Peacocks (2-6-1) managed to eke out a 2-1 victory thanks to a Alix Couto (2) unassisted goal during the 58th minute to break the one-all tie.

With this loss, the Hornets dropped their fourth in a row, while Saint Peter's picked up its second win in the last four games.

Hooking up for the afternoon's first goal was defender Brooke Trotta finding forward Brooke Tartis (4) near the center of DSU's net, resulting in a shot fired past goalkeeper Michele Lammers during the 11th  minute. 

At the half, still trailing by one, Delaware State had five corner kick opportunities, in addition to three shot attempts.  Saint Peter's, meanwhile, totaled five shots, along with two corner kicks.

The second stanza got off to a fast start, beginning with DSU's Ayanna Smith finding forward Taylor Addison (1) for her seventh career goal during the 50th minute.  With this score, Addison moved in a two-way tie for most career goals (7) and points (16) in DSU history.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, the tie did not last long, as Cuoto's goal about eight minutes later put the Peacocks on top for the remainder of the afternoon.

When the final buzzer sounded, Saint Peter's finished with 13 shots, compared to DSU's seven.  In the net, Lammers finished with a game-high four saves, whereas Kelly Jamison moved to 1-1-0 on the season with a three-save effort.

Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will return home this Sunday to face Mount St. Mary's at 1 p.m.
