Towson, Md. (Aug. 28, 2015) --- The Delaware State volleyball team put up a good fight before falling to St. Francis (Pa.) 3-1 in the Towson Invitational at SECU Arena this afternoon. Earlier today in the tournament, the Hornets fell to Tennessee 3-0 in their season opener.
In the St. Francis contest, DSU dropped the first game 25-13 but bounced back to tie the match with a 25-17 victory in game two.
The Red Flash scored five of the last six points to take game three 25-21, and pulled out a 25-23 in the fourth game to win the match.
In their game two win, the Hornets scored the first three points, and opened up a 12-6 lead on a service ace by Jae Jackson. Later in the game, DSU used a 4-1 run to open up a 23-14 lead.
The Hornets posted a .355 hitting percentage (14 kills/3 errors/31 attacks) in the game two win.
Jasmine Jackson (sr.) posted a double-double for the Hornets with a team-high 13 kills and 11 digs. NaKia Jones (so.) was second on the team with nine kills.
Alliyah McBean (so.) was tops on DSU with 16 digs, while freshman setter Marisol Arredondo led all players with 32 assists. Ayanna Lee (11) and Arredondo (10) also reached double figures in digs for the Hornets.
Kelsey Roush led St. Francis with 16 kills on 31 attempts (.516) and 15 digs.
The Hornets fell to Tennessee 25-12, 25-14 and 25-10.
Jasmine Jackson had a team-high nine kills for DSU in the Tennessee match.
The Hornets will continue Towson Invitational play with a 4:45 p.m. match against Manhattan on Saturday. DSU will wrap up the tournament against host Towson on Sunday at 11 a.m.
