DSU FALLS BIG TO NORFOLK STATE TO CONCLUDE VIRGINIA SWING, 95-55

(Norfolk, Va.) – The Delaware State women's basketball team (5-21, 2-11 MEAC) failed to recover from a 17-0 hole in the opening minutes of Monday afternoon's road contest, as the Norfolk State Spartans (11-14, 10-4) held on for a convincing 95-55 victory.

With this loss, the Lady Hornets dropped their fifth in a row, whereas NSU has now won five out of its last six.

After its thunderous start, NSU finished the opening stanza shooting a staggering 60 percent (21-of-35) from the floor, including scoring 20 points off 14 DSU turnovers.  NSU's big half also featured leading scorer Rae Corbo's (21.3 ppg) pouring in 17 of her game-high 28 points (9-of-4), as the Spartans led 53-20 at the break.  Corbo also drained four of NSU's five 3-pointers.

The second half, meanwhile, saw the Lady Hornets trail by as many as 48, whereas Norfolk State tallied its highest scoring total of the season (95) with freshman forward Kayla Roberts totaling 20 points (9-of-19) and seven rebounds. 

For DSU, guard N'Kayah Kersey dropped a career-high 17 points (5-of-10), while juniors Amber Bogard (12) and Nikkei Blackburn (10) scored in doubles figures off the bench.

Coming up, Delaware State will return to Memorial Hall for its final home stretch of the season, beginning this Saturday (2 p.m.) against UMES.  Earlier this season on Feb. 14, the Hornets suffered a 96-59 road loss to the Hawks.

NSU finished the afternoon shooting 54 percent (38-of-71), compared to DSU's 39 percent (21-of-54)… Nikkei Blackburn was named MEAC Defensive of the Week honors on Monday for the second time this season… Delaware State is now 22-17 all-time against the Spartans.
