(Lexington, Va.) – Thursday afternoon, the Delaware State women's soccer team (6-9-2) nearly picked up its fourth road win of 2015, but managed to settle for a scoreless tie with the high-scoring Virginia Military Institute Keydets (6-11-1).
With this tie, the Hornets moved to 2-4-3 all-time against VMI, whereas the Keydets dropped to 1-1-1 over their last three matches.
Coming into the contest, VMI had tallied 29 goals on the season, while the Hornets managed to allow 17. Winning the shot total was Delaware State, totaling a game-high 11 attempts for the afternoon, with forward Taylor Addison and Elise Pratt registering four each. However, none of DSU's attempts were placed on-goal.
VMI, meanwhile, recorded nine shot attempts, led by forward Olivia Cotton's five. Luckily for the Hornets, goalkeeper Michele Lammers (6-9-2) collected two saves to push her shutout total to three, tying Katelyn Koslosky (2011-14) for the second most in DSU single-season history.
Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will look to close the regular season on a high note next Wednesday evening (7 p.m.) at Howard. Delaware State defeated the Bison in last year's regular season finale at home, 3-0.
