Princess Anne, Md. (Oct. 16, 2015) ---Delaware State's Jasmine Jackson led all players in kills and teammate Ayanna Lee was tops in digs, but it was not enough as the Hornets fell to UMES 3-0 in a MEAC match at Hytche Gymnasium this evening.
The scores were 25-18, 25-13 and 25-19.
The Hawks used a balanced attack to win their fourth straight match, improving to 15-3 overall and 4-1 in the MEAC.
Zuzana Ondruskova and Alana Polk led UMES with nine kills each, while teammate Petra Jerabkova led all players with 21 assists.
Jackson recorded her ninth double-double of the season for DSU, tallying 15 kills (.364 attack pct.) and 10 digs. Lee collected 13 digs to lead all players.
In the first set, DSU used a 5-1 run to pull to within 11-10. The Hawks led 12-11 before winning the next four points to pull away.
UMES recorded a .571 hitting percentage (13 kills/1 error/21 attacks) to win the second set.
The Hornets started well in the third set, using a 5-1 rally to open up a four-point lead. Delaware State led 13-10 when the Hawks started their comeback. UMES scored 10 of the next 12 points, and opened up a 20-15 lead on a Delaware State error. The Hornets could get no closer than four points the rest of the set.
Delaware State had 11 blocks in the contest. Jackson and NaKia Jones led the team with three each.
The Hornets (2-16; 0-4 MEAC) return to action on Sunday at Norfolk State. The match begins at 3 p.m. in Norfolk, Va.
