MORGAN STATE WINS MEAC CONTEST OVER HORNETS

Baltimore, Md. (Oct. 11, 2015) --- Morgan State used a balanced attack to defeat Delaware State 3-0 in a MEAC contest at Hill Field House today.

Arianna Hayden led the Bears with nine kills and Haley McClure added eight. Morgan's Carmen Fernandez led all players with 25 assists and teammate Minja Rankov had a match-high 14 digs.

Delaware State's Jasmine Jackson (sr.) led all players with 11 kills, Nevershi Ellis (so.) had eight. Taylor Marshall had a team-high 15 assists, while Jackson also topped the Hornets with seven digs.

There were eight ties in the first set, the last time at 20-20 after a kill by DSU's Ellis. Morgan State scored five of the last six points to take the set.

Morgan State scored the first nine points in set two, and opened up a 16-5 lead on a DSU error.  The Hornets pulled to within eight, but could get no closer to fall behind 2-0 in the match.

The Bears posted a .538 hitting percentage en route to their third set win.

Delaware State had a .090 hitting percentage in the match, tallying 28 kills and 20 errors in 89 attacks. Morgan State recorded a .403 percentage in the contest (38/9/72).

Morgan State improved to 7-12 overall and 3-1 in the MEAC, while DSU fell to 2-15 and 0-3.

The Hornets return to action this Friday for a MEAC match at UMES. Start time is 6 p.m. in Princess Anne, Md.
