UMBC HANGS FOUR ON THE BOARD, HORNETS SHUTOUT TO OPEN WEEKEND SLATE

(Baltimore, Md.) – Friday evening, the Delaware State women's soccer team (2-7) was no match on the road against the defending America East regular season and conference tournament champions, as the UMBC Retrievers (6-2) came away with a 4-0 victory.

In the first period, Delaware State controlled the tempo throughout the opening minutes, headlined by freshmen Paige Wilcox and Franny Farella tallying attempts resulting in two Jen Nance saves.

However, the Retrievers capitalized on a free kick opportunity during the 31st minute right outside of DSU's box, resulting in Lisa Nanov finding midfielder Jessy Brown (3) for the first of two header goals.

Less than 10 minutes later, the Retrievers extended their lead by way of midfielder Meg Kowalski placing a pass from the right wing over the top of the DSU defense, as Brown's (4) attempt got past goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky for a second time.

After intermission, the Hornets found themselves in a deeper hole, when UMBC's Gabby Boehmer (1) fired a shot past Koslosky at close range during the 57th minute.  Brown recorded her second assist of the night in the process.

The Retrievers would go on to put the game out reach in the 87th minute with Nanov tallying her second assist of the night, this time with midfielder Lilly Rydon on the receiving end for her team-best fifth goal of the season.

At game's end, UMBC finished the evening with 15 shots, led by Brown registering a game-high five attempts, including three placed on-frame.  As for the Hornets, they totaled five attempts, while Koslosky collected three saves.

Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will open a season-long three-game homestand this Sunday at 1 p.m., beginning with George Washington.
