Towson, Md. (Sep. 17, 2014) --- The Delaware State University women's volleyball team fell to Towson 3-0 at TU's SECU Arena this evening. The scores were 25-9, 25-26 and 25-13.
Payton Windell had eight kills to lead the Tigers to their 10th win in 11 matches. Towson's Barbara Lopez had a match-high 16 assists, while teammate Paige Sekerak led all players with 12 digs.
Jasmine Jackson collected five kills and five digs to lead the Hornets in each category, while Taylor Marshall topped the team with seven assists.
Towson had a .382 hitting percentage for the contest, recording 46 kills and just 12 errors on 89 attempts.
The Tigers had 43 assists and 41 digs.
Delaware State had 16 kills and 16 kills on 76 attacks (.000). The Hornets recorded 14 assists and 26 digs.
In first set, Towson opened up an 11-3 lead and was never seriously threatened. In game two, Delaware State pulled to within 7-6 on a kill by Nevershi Ellis. Towson led 13-10 in game two before scoring eight of the next 10 points to pull away for good.
In the third set, the Tigers scored 10 of the first 11 points. The Hornets could get no closer than seven points (12-5) the rest of the way.
Delaware State (0-9) will not return to action until Sep. 26 in the home opener against UMES. The match begins at 6 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
