Dover, Del. (Oct. 21, 2014) --- Towson posted a .459 hitting percentage in a 3-0 volleyball win over Delaware State in Memorial Hall this evening. The scores were 25-13, 25-17 and 25-19.
The Tigers won their sixth straight match to improve to 20-3 this season, while the Hornets fell to 1-18.
Towson collected 48 kills and committed just nine errors on 85 attacks. Saitaua Iosia led the Tigers with 15 kills on 19 attempts (.737). Victoria Williams and Haley Pa'akaula added 10 kills each for the visitors.
Jae Jackson was tops on the Hornets with eight kills (.438). Ariana Stevens had seven kills and led DSU with two blocks. Jasmine Jackson tallied five kills and topped the Hornets with seven digs.
Delaware State had a .190 hitting percentage in the match, posting 28 kills and 13 errors on 79 attempts.
In the first set, Towson led 4-3 before taking control. The Tigers scored 12 of the next 18 points, and opened up a 16-9 lead on a kill by Iosia. The Hornets could get no closer than four points the rest of the set.
Delaware State stayed close early in the second set. Towson used a 4-0 run to open up a 15-8 lead. The Hornets pulled to within four (16-12) on a kill by Janessa Helu, but could not cut further into the deficit.
DSU trailed 12-4 early in the third set, but cut the Tigers' lead to 16-12 on a kill by Ariana Stevens. Towson maintained a lead of at least five points the rest of the set.
The Hornets return to action this Friday (Oct. 24) at NJIT. The match begins at 7 p.m. in Newark, N.J.
