HORNETS SETTLE FOR A 1-1 DRAW WITH VMI TO CONCLUDE HOMESTAND

(Dover, Del.) – Thursday evening, the Delaware State women's soccer team (3-8-1) settled for a 1-1 tie with the visiting VMI Keydets (2-8-1) to wrap up its season-long three-game homestand.

After a scoreless first period, the Keydets got on the board during the 64th minute, when midfielder Killian Buckley (1) put a header shot past goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky at close range.  Midfielders Nicole Blixt and Allie Segura were credited the assists.

However, the Hornets knotted the match during the 84th minute by way of a Julia Bossert (1) pouch kick from about 30 yards out from the center of the net.

As regulation progressed, neither squad broke through as the match headed into overtime.

Coming into tonight's contest, the Hornets were 0-1 in overtime games with their loss occurring at home in a 2-1 double overtime defeat at the hands of UMass Lowell on Aug. 29, while the Keydets had yet to play in an extra period.

In the overtime periods, DSU tallied three shot attempts, compared to VMI's one, headlined by a Paige Wilcox attempt sailing high in the first overtime.  Nevertheless, VMI held steady held, denying a chance for DSU to earn its second straight victory.

When the final buzzer sounded, Delaware State totaled 11 shots, whereas the Keydets racked up seven attempts with five occurring in the second period. In the net, neither goalkeeper was challenged throughout the evening, as Koslosky finished with no saves and Emily Marbury with one.

Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will hit the road next Friday (7 p.m.) to face the NJIT Highlanders.
