Dover, Del. (Oct. 10, 2014) --- Coppin State posted a .538 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 win over Delaware State in a MEAC match at DSU's Memorial Hall this evening.
The Eagles recorded 53 kills and just four errors on 91 attacks in the contest. CSU collected 50 assists on its 53 winners, including 42 by Chelsee Sauni. Â Kendra Ireigbe led Coppin State with 13 kills on 14 attempts (.929).
Delaware State tallied 36 kills and 13 errors on 99 attempts for a .232 attack percentage in the match. Â
Jasmine Jackson led the Hornets with 10 kills (.233), while Jae Jackson added eight winners (.615) and a match-high three blocks. Taylor Marshall topped the Hornets with 18 assists, while Ayanna Lee had a team-high 10 digs. Â Lee has at least 10 digs in four straight, and five of the last six matches.
The opening set featured six ties. The Hornets trailed 10-6 in the early going, but rallied to tie the score at 12 on a kill by Natalia Mendieta. The set was also tied at 13, 16, 16 and 17.
Coppin State broke the tie on a kill by Kandace Thomas off a feed by Sauni.
The Eagles scored eight of the last 11 points to win the set.
In set two, Coppin State scored the first four points, and opened up a 13-6 lead after back-to-back kills by Thomas.
The Hornets could get no closer than six points during the rest of the set.
 Coppin State also started fast in the third set, scoring seven of the first nine points. The Eagles opened up a 17-7 lead on a kill by Sauni.  Â
 The Hornets return to action on Sunday (Oct. 12) at home against Norfolk State. The MEAC contest begins at 1 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
