(Newark, N.J.) – The Delaware State women's soccer (1-16) held the NJIT Highlanders (8-10-1) scoreless in the first period, but the Hornets allowed three unanswered goals in the second stanza to fall 3-0 in their final match of the season.
Throughout the first half, the Columbia Blue & Red owned the shot count, 7-5, but NJIT held the Hornets' offensive attack at bay.
Meanwhile, the Highlanders broke through during the 63rd minute when forward Carly Berdan (1) made a pass to Abi Fakolujo (3) deep in DSU territory for the score.
NJIT later extended its lead during 73rd minute when midfielder/forward Madeline Griep (2) placed a corner-kick inside of the Hornets' goalie box, as Berdan (3) connected for the goal.
With time winding down, the Highlanders put the finishing touches on the match when forward Rebecca Tustin (3) avoided a handful of Hornet defenders and beat goalkeeper Katelyn Koslosky (1-16) for the score during the 88th minute.
When the final buzzer sounded, both squads finished with 10 shots, while DSU's offense placed seven on-frame.
In the net, Koslosky finished with two stops, whereas NJIT's Samantha Bersett (8-10-1) collected seven saves.
