Baltimore, Md. (Oct. 6, 2013) --- Morgan State was the better hitting team in a 3-0 win over Delaware State in a MEAC North match at MSU's Hill Field House today. The scores were 25-18, 25-14 and 25-22.
The Hornets had a .086 attack percentage in the contest (24 kills/17 errors/81 attempts), while the Bears recorded a .271 mark (36/13/85).
Jasmine Jackson (so.; So. Riding, Va.) turned in a solid performance for DSU, collecting seven kills on 13 attempts (.462) and leading the Hornets with seven digs.
Edarkis Branch (jr.; Los Angeles, Cal.) topped DSU with eight kills, while Natalia Mendieta (so.; Aurora, Ill.) had a team-high 18 assists.
Morgan State's Samantha Prescott led all players with 11 kills; while teammate Ngebui Chafeh had a match high 29 assists.
In game one, Delaware State led 18-17 before Morgan State scored the last eight points to win the set.
The Bears never trailed in game two to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third game, Morgan State scored the first four points but the Hornets fought back to tie the set at 8-8. The Hornets took their first lead of the game 17-16 on a kill by Jackson off a Mendieta feed. DSU opened up a 20-18 lead after a Morgan State error, but the Bears scored seven of the last nine points to win the game and match.
Delaware State returns to action on Friday (Oct. 11) with a conference match at Coppin State. The match begins at 7:00 p.m. in Baltimore, Md.
