HORNETS HANG TOUGH, CORNELL SNEAKS BY WITH A 1-0 VICTORY

(Dover, Del.) – The Delaware State women's soccer team (0-11) battled all the way to the final buzzer, but the visiting Cornell Big Red (7-3-1, 1-1 Ivy League) came out on top Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium, 1-0.

Throughout the first period, DSU kept the contest scoreless, despite Cornell attempting 16 shots, including five placed on-goal.  In the case of the Hornets, their best scoring opportunity occurred during the ninth minute when forward Taylor Addison fired a shot towards the net, but keeper Tori Christi (3-1-1) was there for a diving save.

Meanwhile, the Big Red broke through with less than a minute to play when defender Charlotte Tate (1) made a throw-in pass to midfielder Claire MacManus (1) on the right wing in DSU territory. After making a move past a Hornet defender, MacManus floated a shot over the head of keeper Katelyn Koslosky (0-11) for the goal.

At the half, Koslosky recorded three saves, whereas Christi finished with one stop.

In the second stanza, the Hornets limited Cornell's offense to six shots, while Addison tallied DSU's second shot placed on-goal.

Unfortunately for DSU, Cornell was able to hold the Hornets scoreless for the duration of the match to pull out the win.

At game's end, the Big Red finished with 22 shots with seven placed on-frame, while Addison totaled the Hornets' lone two attempts.  Defensively, Koslosky recorded five stops, whereas Tate tallied two saves for Cornell.

Coming up, DSU will be back in action this Thursday (7 p.m.) at Howard.
