HORNETS SNAP SKID WITH SHUTOUT OF WILDCATS

Dover, Del. (Oct. 21, 2013) --- Delaware State posted a season-high .382 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 women's volleyball win over Bethune-Cookman in Memorial Hall this evening.  The scores were 25-17, 25-18 and 25-17. It was the Hornets' first three-set victory since shutting out LaSalle on Sep. 15, 2012.

DSU recorded 39 kills and a season-low 10 errors on 76 attack attempts.

Edarkis Branch led the Hornets with 12 kills on 21 attempts (.421), while Jessica Croucher added 10 kills on 22 tries (.364).

Delaware State's Sonya Inderbitzen led all players with 12 digs, while Taylor Marshall had a team-high 19 assists for the Hornets.

"This was our most complete effort of the season," said DSU first-year head coach Kisya Killingsworth, a former Bethune-Cookman assistant. "We've had our ups and downs this season, but the ladies continue to work hard to improve each match."

In the first set, Delaware State used a 7-2 run to open up a 14-9 lead. The Hornets led 24-16 after a  Bethune-Cookman error.

DSU trailed 7-5 before a going on a six-point run to take control in game two. The Hornets opened up an 11-7 lead on a kill by Branch off a feed from Inderbitzen, who scored the game-winning point on a service ace.

Bethune-Cookman started strong in game three, opening up a 9-4 lead. The Hornets answered with a five-point run to get back into the game. DSU regained the lead in game three 12-11 on a Wildcat error.
The Hornets closed out the game with a 5-0 run. Jasmine Jackson ended the match on a kill off an assist from Marshall.

Delaware State held a 39-24 edge in digs. The Hornets also recorded nine blocks, compared to five for the Wildcats.

The win snapped a 12-match losing streak for the Hornets, who improved to 2-16 this season. Bethune-Cookman fell to 4-21.

Delaware State returns to action on Wednesday (Oct. 23) at Rider. The match gets underway at 7:00 p.m. in Lawrenceville, N.J.
