HORNETS ANNOUNCE 2014 VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE

HORNETS FALL TO COPPIN STATE 3-0

Baltimore, Md. (Oct. 12, 2013) --- The Delaware State University volleyball team fell to improving Coppin State 3-0 in a MEAC North match at the CSU Physical Education Complex Friday evening. The scores were 25-15, 25-17 and 25-15.

Denali Sturgeon and Cindy Okpegbue led the Eagles with 10 kills each, while teammate Gabrielle Otero had a match-high 12 digs.

Jessica Russell-Croucher had team-highs of 10 kills and nine digs for the Hornets. Edarkis Branch had six kills, while Taylor Marshall led DSU with 15 assists.

Coppin State out hit DSU .342 to .075. The Eagles had 37 kills and 11 errors on 76 attacks, while the Hornets tallied 29 winners and 22 miscues on 93 attempts.

In game one, Delaware State scored the first four points but Coppin State scored 12 of the next 14 to take a 12-6 lead. DSU could get no closer than three points the rest of the set.

Coppin State used a late four-point rally and a three-point run to take game two.

In game three, the score was 12-12 before the Eagles scored 13 of the last 16 points to take the set and match.

Coppin State improved to 6-13 overall and 3-2 in the MEAC North. The Hornets fell to 1-13 and 0-4.

Delaware State returns to action on Sunday at Norfolk State. The match gets underway at 3:00 p.m. in Norfolk, Va.
