WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Delaware State University volleyball team posted a season-high .435 attack percentage with 32 kills Friday evening en route to their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-15) rout of Howard University at Burr Gymnasium.
Senior Laisha Davis (Riviera Beach, Fla.) led the way for the Hornets with a .875 attack percentage on seven kills and no errors. The middle blocker also recorded two block assists and one solo block with one dig.
Fellow senior Bel Fakaosi (Salt Lake City, Utah) posted a game-high 26 assists with nine digs.
Sophomore Edarkis Branch (Los Angeles, Calif.) collected a game-high nine kills with a .467 attack percentage. Junior Jessica Croucher (Brisbane, Australia) also tallied seven kills for the DSU at a .312 mark.
After recording five errors in the first set, Del State went errorless in the final two with 23 kills on 37 total attacks for a .622 attack percentage.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 4-9 overall and 1-1 in the MEAC while Howard falls to 0-11 on the year and 0-1 in conference play.
Del State takes a quick break from MEAC competition as they travel north to Newark, Del. on Tuesday for the annual Route 1 Rivalry with the University of Delaware. The two teams are slated to play at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
