SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Sophomore Chelsea Boursiquot (Stratford, Conn.) scored the first goal of the season Friday afternoon for the Delaware State University women's soccer team, but Bryant University found the net in the 86th minute to steal a 2-1 victory over the Hornets at Sutton Field.
In the 30th minute, Boursiquot held a breakaway and beat the goalkeeper to the net to give the Hornets the 1-0 lead on the unassisted goal.
Delaware State kept the Bulldogs scoreless in the first half as sophomore Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip, N.Y.) collected seven saves.
Bryant got on board almost immediately in the second half as Delaware State was whistled for a foul in the box and Alex Bengston capitalized on a penalty kick goal to tie things at 1-1 in the 46th minute.
The Bulldogs found the net again in 86th minute as Ari Goldberg took the ball at the top of the 18 and floated it to the back post to give Bryant the eventual 2-1 final score.
The tension was dicey between the two teams as each was yellow carded in the 58th minute. In total, there were seven fouls called on each team.
The Hornets (0-5) were outshot in the game, 4-22, and recorded two corner kicks to five for Bryant (4-4).
Koslosky collected a total of 11 saves in the game, while the Bulldogs' Lauren Viverito saw just one.
Boursiquot finished the day with one goal, two shots on goal and three shots total. Junior Kaitlyn Schech (Abingdon, Md.) also got off one shot.
