TEANECK, N.J. - A solid second half showing wasn't enough for the Delaware State University women's soccer team as Fairleigh Dickinson scored three first-half goals en route to a 5-0 victory over the Hornets Friday evening at University Stadium.
Sophomore Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip, N.Y.) recorded eight saves on the night while FDU's Sage DoVale collected three.
Rachel Hoekstra posted a game-high six points on two goals and one assist. She got the Knights on board early, scoring in the fourth minute with a shot just past Koslosky. The freshman scored again in the 26th minute after dribbling past two defenders and sending a rocket into the upper right hand corner from 12 yards out to give FDU a 2-0 lead.
Just three minutes later, Erin Kearns scored off of a corner kick to give the Knights the 3-0 advantage.
The Hornets didn't get off their first shot on goal until the 32nd minute from junior Kaitlyn Schech (Abingdon, Md.). Freshman Morgan Durham (Clayton, N.J.) challenged DoVale in the 34th minute while sophomore Chelsea Boursiquot (Stratford, Conn.) just barely missed the net from a cross field shot in the 35th minute.
Del State came out of halftime with a fire and pressured FDU early. Senior Kelsey Gibson (Elizabethtown, N.Y.) recorded the team's third shot on goal in the 50th minute.
Koslosky notched five straight saves before Lindzy Williams took two touches in front of the net and send a shot to the lower left corner to give FDU a 4-0 lead in the 75th minute.
With seven minutes remaining, the Knights were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty box and Kasey Schiavoni beat out Koslosky to put FDU up, 5-0.
The Hornets were outshot in the match, 18-4, and posted just one corner kick to FDU's seven.
With the loss, Del State moves to 0-2 on the year while the Knights earned their first win of the season to improve to 1-1-3.
The Hornets return home Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest against Radford University. Live stats will be available through www.DSUHornets.com.
