HORNETS WRAP UP NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE AT ARKANSAS

HORNETS EDGED IN OVERTIME BY PENN STATE, 80-76

University Park, Pa. (Dec. 15, 2012) --- Delaware State was 73 seconds away from its first-ever win against a Big Ten team, but Penn State scored the last seven points of the game in an 80-76 overtime victory over the Hornets at Bryce Jordan Arena this afternoon.

DSU led 76-73 when Tyshawn Bell hit a three-point shot with 1:13 left in the extra period. Penn State tied the game on a three-pointer by Jermaine Marshall with 1:00 left.

The Hornets had an opportunity to regain the lead on the ensuing possession, but Tahj Tate missed two free throws with 46.5 seconds remaining in the extra period.

Penn State took advantage of the break when D.J. Newbill hit a basket with 28 seconds left to give the Lions a 78-76 lead.

After Delaware State failed to score on its next possession, Penn State's Brandon Taylor hit two free throws with 14 seconds left to secure the win for the Lions.

The Hornets trailed 21-3 in the early going but fought back to trail by eight points at the half.

Penn State (6-4) led 69-66 when Bell hit a three-pointer with 12.2 seconds left in regulation to tie the game. It marked the second straight game that the Hornets hit a three-point shot in the closing seconds of the second half to force overtime. DSU's Amere May nailed a three-pointer with 4.8 seconds left in regulation in the Hornets' 73-67 win at Delaware last Saturday.

Casey Walker was high scorer for Delaware State with a season-high 24 points. His performance was highlighted by five three-point field goals.

Bell added 15 points for the Hornets.

Newbill led Penn State with 22 points.

Delaware State (5-6) returns to action on Wednesday (Dec. 19) at Pittsburgh. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
