OREM, Utah - For the second consecutive year, the Delaware State University women's soccer team has had their season ended in the first round of the Great West Conference Tournament with a loss to South Carolina State. Similar to last year, the Hornets fell on a 1-0 shutout; this year, the loss came at Utah Valley's Clyde Field.
Sophomore Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip, N.Y.) collected five saves in the game to sit in second place all-time with 205 career saves.
The lone goal of the game came in the 54th minute as Bulldog freshman Blanca Barrio connected on a loose ball from a throw-in on the right side of the field. Barrio's shot went into the left corner of the net to give SCSU the 1-0 advantage. She finished the game with eight total shots with two on goal.
The Hornets were outshot, 10-21, in the game, including a deficit of 3-13 in the first period. SCSU also led in corner kicks, 6-1.
Senior Candace Wyre (Smyrna, Del.) posted three shots in the game, including two on goal. Junior Kaitlyn Schech (Abingdon, Md.) and sophomore Gabi Pinto (Bear, Del.) each tallied one shot on goal for Delaware State.
SCSU's Danielle Murphy recorded three saves while Mariah Hebbe contributed one.
The Hornets finish the 2012 campaign with an overall record of 3-11-1 while posting a record of 2-3 in GWC play. The two conference wins were the most in school history.
