BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Freshman Jasmine Jackson (South Riding, Va.) posted 10 kills and no errors with a hitting percentage of .588 while classmate Alena Jung (Kunsterdingen, Germany) tallied a match-high 12 digs, but Lehigh proved to be too much for the Delaware State University volleyball team as they fell, 0-3 (16-25, 21-25, 21-25) to the Mountain Hawks Tuesday evening at the Leeman-Turner Arena.
The loss was the seventh straight for the Hornets as they fall to 4-16 overall on the year while Lehigh improved to 9-11.
Kills from junior Jessica Croucher (Brisbane, Australia) and sophomore Edarkis Branch (Los Angeles, Calif.) gave the Hornets a 9-8 lead in the first set, but Lehigh bounced back on an 8-1 run to take a 16-10 advantage. The Mountain Hawks finished DSU on a 9-6 stretch to take the 25-16 victory.
Down 11-17 in set two, Delaware State took a match-high .304 hitting percentage to come within 21-22. Lehigh didn't back down however and finished with two kills to win set two, 25-21.
The outcome was the same in the third set as the Mountain Hawks jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the third set. The Hornets rallied to come within three at 20-23 before kills from Amanda Clark and Lizzy Silverstein gave Lehigh the 25-21 set and match win.
Senior Bel Fakaosi (Salt Lake City, Utah) recorded a match-high 35 assists while Lehigh's Clark collected a match-high 14 kills.
Delaware State wraps up non-conference play Thursday as they host Rider at 7 p.m. at Memorial Hall.
