DOVER, Del. - For the second
consecutive game, the Delaware State University women's soccer team was held
scoreless as American University took a 1-0 win over the Hornets Sunday
afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
"This
is a difficult loss to take," DSU head coach Nitan Soni remarked. "Each
game, we're playing more competitively than the previous contest and they
really battled out there. I have no
doubt that this will stick with them this week as we prepare for Rider and
Wagner and they'll continue to work their hardest."
AU
junior Jasmine Mohandesi got off a game-high three shots on the day and was
credited with the lone goal of the afternoon.
In the 48th minute, Mohandesi shot the ball from about 10
yards out, which deflected off of a DSU player and went past Hornet freshman
goalie Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip,
N.Y.) to the middle of the net.
Three
DSU players recorded a shot on goal for the day in juniors Candace Wyre (Smyrna, Del.) and Jeanette Salgado (Bergenfield, N.J.) and sophomore Kaitlyn Schech (Abingdon, Md.) and
Koslosky
collected three saves on the afternoon.
The
loss puts Del State at 1-8-1 on the year while the Eagles improve to 3-3-1.
The
Hornets play their next two games on the road, at Rider on Friday and at Wagner
next Sunday.
