DSU FALLS, 3-1 TO MORGAN STATE

BALTIMORE, Md. - Freshman Theresa Schieder (Munich, Germany) recorded a team-high 10 kills Sunday afternoon as the Delaware State volleyball team fell, 3-1 (19-25, 15-25, 25-22, 24-26), to Morgan State at Hill Field House.

Senior Megan McDonald (Spring, Texas) added in seven kills and a .700 attack percentage in the loss while junior Bel Fakaosi (Salt Lake City, Utah) contributed 28 assists and 10 digs.

In set one, the Lady Bears compiled a match-high .464 attack percentage (17 kills/four errors/28 total attack) compared to .250 for DSU (11/four/28).  They started the game with an 11-4 lead over the Hornets.  Morgan State held a steady lead before Del State pulled within four at 22-18 with a kill from McDonald.  The Lady Bears responded with kills from Kierra Outlin and Ashley Johnson to go up 24-18 before closing out with a 25-19 win.

Set two produced a similar result as the Hornets recorded eight errors for a -.038 hitting percentage.  Morgan State jumped out to a 13-5 lead and the closes Del State would get would be seven points for the remainder of the set.  A kill from sophomore Jessica Croucher (Brisbane, Australia) pulled DSU to 23-15 before losing, 25-15.

The Hornets rallied in the third set to take the 25-22 victory and force a fourth set.  Down, 18-19, a kill from Schieder tied things at 19-19.  Two attack errors from Outlin and an ace from sophomore Sonya Inderbitzin (Annandale, Va.) gave Del State a 22-20 lead to force a Morgan State timeout.  The Lady Bears would pull within one at 23-22 with a kill from Ashley Johnson.  Coming out of a DSU timeout, kills from Schieder and junior Laisha Davis (Riviera Beach, Fla.) gave the Hornets the win.

Things stayed close in the fourth set as the two teams battled things out.  The set was tied 17 times and the lead changed hands five times.  Del State held a 24-23 lead with a kill from McDonald before the Lady Bears wrapped up the game on a 3-0 run for the 26-24 set and match victory.

Morgan State received double digit kills from four players in Outlin (16), Erin Cox (14), Janelle Wilson (10) and Johnson (10).

The loss puts the Hornets at 4-19 overall and 3-7 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference while MSU improves to 9-18 and 7-4.

Del State returns home next weekend as they host Hampton (Friday) and Norfolk State (Sunday) for Parent's Weekend and Senior Day (Sunday).
