THE GAME
Delaware State is home for the first time since Sep. 10 to take on Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) leader Norfolk State. The Hornets have dropped their last three games to fall to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the MEAC. DSU is coming off a 34-7 loss at Florida A&M last Saturday. The Hornets broke a two-game scoring drought, but were outgained 394-181 in the contest. The Spartans are riding a three-game win streak that's improved its record to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in league play. NSU defeated South Carolina State 17-14 last week in its most recent outing. Quarterback Chris Walley connected on 21-of-31 passes for 153 yards and rushed for 39 yards and a touchdown to lead the Spartans.
THE SERIES
The teams are meeting for the 17th consecutive year, and 19th time overall. Delaware State holds a 13-5 lead in the series, although Norfolk State has won the last two meetings. The Spartans won last year's meeting 31-21 in Norfolk, Va. The Spartans racked up 459 yards, including 310 on the ground, in the contest. The last time the teams met at DSU, Norfolk State scored 21 unanswered points in the last 11:48 of the game, including the winning touchdown in the final minute, to defeat the Hornets 21-16 in 2009. Delaware State won six straight games between the teams from 2003 to 2008.
