DSU ANNOUNCES 2010 ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME CLASS

Dover, Del. (Aug. 23, 2010) --- Delaware State University has announced that 13 former Hornet  greats have been selected for induction into the DSU Athletics Hall of Fame.

The enshrinement ceremony for the Hornet Hall of Fame class of 2010 is set for Friday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center in Dover.

The newest DSU Hall of Fame class includes former head football coach Bill Collick, who led the Hornets to five Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) titles from 1985 to 1996. Collick, who also served four years as the university's athletic director, is the school's all-time leader with 81 football coaching wins.

Former Delaware State football standouts Steve Coleman, DeCosta Brown, Victor Heflin, Joe Lane and Donald Wright were also selected for hall of fame induction. Lane was also a standout wrestler for the Hornets.

Delaware State's 2010 Athletics Hall of Fame class also includes former track and field stars Ean Rose and Gwendolyn Harris. Rose, a five-time MEAC Champion, is the school record holder in the indoor and outdoor shot put and discus. Harris, a member of the State of Delaware Track and Field Hall of Fame, is currently the head women's track and field coach at the University of Pennsylvania.

The DSU Athletics Hall of Fame will also welcome its first softball players. Former All-MEAC and All-Mid Atlantic Region standouts Patty Brown and Janice Savage were selected for induction this year. Brown, a two-time All-MEAC selection and former conference Rookie-of-the-Year, finished her Hornet career as the school's all-time leader in home runs, runs batted in, hits, triples and runs scored. Savage, a two-time Academic All-America and an All-MEAC First Team selection, graduated as DSU's career pitching leader in strikeouts, earned run average, shutouts and saves.

Rounding out the 2010 DSU Athletics Hall of Fame class are former basketball standouts David Wharton, Sam Shepherd and Thomas Arrington, who also competed on the Hornets' baseball, cross country, and track and field teams.

Tickets for the Oct. 29 DSU Hall of Fame ceremony are $30. Proceeds from the affair will benefit Delaware State University athletics.
