Hampton, Va. (Feb. 27. 2010) --- Michael Freeman led four Hampton players in double figures with 14 points in the Pirates' 64-45 MEAC men's basketball win over Delaware State at the HU Convocation Center this evening.
The Hornets lost for the second time in three games to fall to 15-11 ocverall and 10-5 in league play. Hampton improved to 11-18 and 7-8.
Freeman also led all players with 14 rebounds. He was 3-for-6 from the field and 8-of-8 at the free throw line. Darrion Pellum had 12 points for the Pirates, while Milade Lola-Charles and Kwame Morgan added 10 each.
Marcus Neal was high man for Delaware State with 12 points. Marques Oliver came off the bench to add 11 and Frisco Sandidge had 10. The Hornets also committed 21 turnovers. DSU was averaging a MEAC-low 11 turnovers per game entering the contest.
Delaware trailed 35-27 at the half, but pulled to within 38-36 on a free throw by Trevor Welcher with 14:01 left to play.
Hampton answered with a 15-2 run, and opened up a 53-38 lead on a lay by Vincent Simpson with 8:26 left. The Hornets could get no closer than 11 the rest of the way.
The Hornets will wrap up the regular season at home against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Thursday (Mar. 4). Game time is 7:30 p.m.
