Dover, Del. (Feb. 22, 2010) --- Delaware State outscored Coppin State 28-18 in the second half en route to a 53-41 win over the Eagles in MEAC women's basketball Monday evening.
The Lady Hornets improved to 6-21 overall and 4-9 in the MEAC, while Coppin State fell to 9-16 and 4-9.
Cortney Crockett led Delaware State with 12 points, while teammate Brittany Washington had a game-high 13 rebounds. Washington has reached double-figures in rebounds in each of the last five games.
Crystal Whittington was high scorer for Coppin State with 12 points.
Delaware State was ahead by as many as seven points in the first half, but settled for a 25-23 lead at the break.
Coppin State tied the game at 27-27 on a lay-up by Dawnnae Roberts with 18:12 left to play.
The Lady Hornets scored the next five points, and opened up a 32-27 lead on three-pointer by Alexis Abraham with 15:22 remaining in the game. Abraham scored nine points on three three-point field goals.
Delaware State used a 14-2 run midway through the second half to take control for good. Selena Galloway capped off the run with a lay up to give DSU a 49-34 lead with 3:58 left to play. Six players scored for DSU during the spurt.
Galloway hit two free throws to give the Lady Hornets their biggest lead, 53-36, with 1:53 remaining in the game.
