Dover, Del. (Feb. 15, 2010) --- Delaware State hit just 15 of 62 shots from the floor (24.2%) in a 52-42 MEAC women's basketball loss to Florida A&M in Memorial Hall Monday evening.
The Rattlers won their second in a row to improve to 14-8 overall and 6-5 in the MEAC. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Lady Hornets, who fell to 5-20 and 3-9.
Tameka McKelton scored a game-high 17 points for the Rattlers, while teammate Antonia Bennett had 11 points and 17 rebounds. Qiana Donald pulled down 11 boards for Florida A&M.
Cortney Crockett was the only Delaware State player in double figures with 14 points. Brittany Washington had 11 rebounds for the Hornets, her third straight game with double-figure rebounds.
Delaware State was 7-for-35 from the field in the first half (20%) and 8-of-27 in the final 20 minutes. The Hornets were just 1-for-15 from three-point territory.
DSU was also outrebounded 49-34 in the contest.
Florida A&M scored the first five points of the game, but Delaware State grabbed a 10-7 lead on a basket by Tanya Clark with 9:54 left in the half.
Delaware State missed its last seven shots in the first half to allow Florida A&M to take a 21-17 lead at the break. , The Rattlers opened up a double-digit lead (38-27) on a jumper by McKelton with 10:28 left to play. The Rattlers led 40-29 when each teams went on a nearly three minute dry spell. Delaware State broke the drought when Kianna D'Oliveira hit a lay up to cut the Rattlers' lead to 40-31 with 5:50 left in the game. The Hornets could get no closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Delaware State returns to action this Saturday at home against Morgan State. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
