EAGLES SOAR PAST HORNETS

WASHINGTON D.C. (September 30th) - Two goals from senior Kelsey Brasher led the way as  the American University Eagles (5-6) dropped the Delaware State Hornets 3-0 on Wednesday at the Reeves Athletic Complex on the campus of American University.

Despite having the run of play for most of the first half, AU was unable to break through until the 39th minute when Friederike Engel found the other end of an Allison Slattery corner kick.  Her redirection beat Hornet keeper Brittany Curtis to her left for the opening salvo.

In the 57th minute Brasher fired from distance off a Gabrielle Barbato pass, and was also able get through Curtis to her left.  On Brasher's second tally of the day Engel was able to turn provider alongside Brooke Sheppard in the 68th minute, with the third again coming from an AU corner kick.

The Eagles dominated possession, outshooting the Hornets 41-3, and were able to put 21 shots on goal to just two for DSU (1-8).  The loss overshadows an excellent performance for junior goalkeeper Brittany Curtis, who notched 18 saves for the match.  Depth continues to be an issue for a short-handed Hornet squad that saw seven players go the full 90 minutes.

The Hornets return home for two matches this weekend, taking on the UMBC Retrievers on Friday at 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium, and take on South Carolina State on Sunday at 1 p.m. in their second Great West Conference match of the year.  Live stats will be available for both matches via DSUHornets.com.
