DURHAM, N.C. (September 26th) - Delaware State Volleyball went with Martina Ferrari as their setter this weekend, and her leadership and play turned out to spark some of DSU's best performances of 2009 as the Hornets defeated the North Carolina Central Eagles 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-19) for their third consecutive sweep and the championship of the North Carolina Central Invitational.  For her efforts, Ferrari was named the Tournament MVP, and senior middle hitter Cassandra Joyner joined her on the All-Tournament team.

"I can't say enough about the leadership and energy Mia (Ferrari) brought to us this weekend," said head coach Renee Arnold, who saw her charges get back to .500 for the season at 9-9.  "We really played as a team with a great energy today, and I think Mia's play had a lot to do with that.  We need to keep this momentum going forward, especially heading into conference play."

The Hornets again dominated a NCC Invitational opponent defensively, digging 61 balls to 39 for NCC (5-14).  Joyner found her form offensively as well, killing 13 attacks with just one error, and hitting .400 for the match.  Ferrari chipped in 38 assists, giving her 104 across the nine sets this weekend as well as six kills and 14 digs.  Her MVP performance is the second for the Hornets this season, as Joyner was named MVP of the Hornet Invitational two weekends ago. 

DSU gets back in action this Tuesday against St. Francis, whom the Bulls defeated 3-1 earlier this season in Loretto, PA.  Fans that can't make it to Memorial Gym will be able to access live stats for the match through DSUHornets.com.
