DOVER, Del. (September 25nd)
- Two tallies from Retha Koefoed as well as one from Jordan Brown were enough for the Howard Bison to defeat the Delaware State Hornets 3-0 on Friday night at Alumni Stadium in Dover.
Howard (1-6-1, 0-1 Great West) was able to control the run of play early, with Hornet defender Chelsea Brown fouling a streaking Jordan Brown just on the edge of the penalty area in the 10th minute. The foul earned her DSU's first yellow card of the season, and the resulting free kick was fired past Hornet keeper Brittany Curtis low and to her left.
Howard doubled the advantage in the 24th minute when Cynthia Snyder went free down the left side, and sent a low cross to a waiting Brown who was able to put a foot to it inside the six yard box without any Hornet resistance. Koefoed picked up her second of the match and the season when she finished a ball that bounced off multiple players and fell to her feet just a couple meters from the DSU net.
The Bison outshot the Hornets 20-6, and Howard was able to put 10 shots on frame to just two for the hosts.
DSU (1-6, 0-1 Great West) gets back to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium against Navy. Due to the NASCAR Sprint Cup race across the street at Dover Downs, fans are encouraged to arrive early and prepare for difficult traffic.
