DELAWARE STATE DEFEATS S.C. STATE, 3-1; ADVANCES TO SEMIFINALS

BALTIMORE, November 20, 2009- Delaware State defeated South Carolina State, 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-20) in the quarterfinal round of the 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship tournament at the Coppin Center on the campus of Coppin State University.

Tied at one set a piece, the two teams battled back and forth throughout the third set. DSU was victorious winning with a 25-23 score. Set four was a highly competitive one with South Carolina State (13-20) and Delaware State (20-12) trading point for point. After a tie at 19-all, the Lady Hornets pulled away and won the match 25-20.

Delaware State senior Cassandra Joyner, an All-MEAC first-team honoree, led the way for the Lady Hornets with 21 kills on 46 attacks.

Erica Tajchman and Elisa Hermann added 14 and 11 kills, respectively.

Jarne Gleaton aided the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs (13-20) with 17 kills and seven digs.

Brittany Davis posted 12 kills and led her team with a 35-percent from the floor in the loss.

The Delaware State Lady Hornets will meet the defending national champion Florida A&M Lady Rattlers in a semifinal at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow.
