HIGHLANDERS TWO BRACES DEFEAT HORNETS

NEWARK N.J. (Oct. 18th) - Two first half tallies from Mariam Bestawros and Millie Motta were the only scoring on the day as the NJIT Highlanders (5-6-2, 2-1-1 Great West) defeated the DSU Hornets 2-0 at Lubetkin Field in Newark on Sunday afternoon

"Our players had difficulty making adjustments on the field to limit their opportunities," said head coach Nitan Soni.  "But that's something we'll work on this week and try to get better."

The Highlanders opened their account in the 18th minute when Amanda Dotten found Bestawros in the DSU penalty area for her first of the 2009 campaign.  In the 44th NJIT struck again, this time with Piper Lunan providing the service for Motta at the top of the area.

The Highlanders outshot the Hornets 20-3, and held a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal.  Hornet keeper Courtney Haas 10 saves gave her double digit stops for the second time this week.  The DSU backline was once again effective as a unit, forcing NJIT offsides 11 times for the match.

The Hornets look for revenge on Friday against NJIT, this time from Alumni Stadium in Dover.  Live stats for the match will be available at DSUHornets.com
