Dover, DE --- The Delaware State basketball teams will welcome MEAC rival Hampton to Memorial Hall on Saturday. The women's game tips off at 1:30 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 4:00 p.m. The men's game will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
The Delaware State women are 10-12 overall and 5-3 in the MEAC. The Lady Pirates are 6-2 in the league and 12-8 overall.
The DSU/Hampton women's contest is also the featured event for Delaware State's celebration of "National Girls and Women in Sports Day." Area middle and high school girls have been invited to the university to experience "a day in the life of a college athlete." The guests will take part in discussions, tour campus facilities and participate in half-time and post-game festivities.
Millions of TV viewers will witness one of the MEAC's most intense rivalries when the men's teams take the floor. Delaware State and Hampton split two MEAC Tournament championship game contests in 2005 and '06.
The Hornets are 8-12 overall and 5-3 in the MEAC. Hampton is second in the league with 6-1 mark. The Pirates are 13-7 overall.
Delaware State swept last year's series between the teams.
