Baltimore, MD ? It was the battle between the defending MEAC regular season champs and the present league leading Morgan State Bears and just like the last match-up it went down to the final seconds. This time it was the Bears coming out on top over the Delaware State Hornets 64-59. The win improved the Bears to 12-8 and 8-1 in the MEAC, while the Hornets fell to 8-12, 5-3.
MSU controlled the first half and took a 12 point league into the locker room 34-22. The Bears won the battle of the boards 19-9 and shot 51.9% from the floor, while the Hornets hit a cold streak, shooting 31.6%.
In the second half, the league went to 14 (52-38) with 12:16 left, before the Hornets turn the table and went on 14-0 run and tied the game at 52 with 4:28 left on lay-up by Frisco Sandidge. The Hornets were not able to take the lead, but gave the Bears second chance shots that were costly down the stretch. The Bears had 18 offensive rebounds and won the rebound battle for the game 39-24. The Bears sealed the game at the line connecting on all four of their attempts in the final 14 seconds.
DSU's Roy Bright led all scorers with 23 points and sophomore forward Sandidge finished with a career high 15 points. Bright and Sandidge also had five rebounds each.
Jermaine Bolden led the Bears with 20 points and Marquise Kately added 17. Boubacar Coly led all rebounders with 12.
The Hornets will return to action on Saturday, February 9th when they host conference rival Hampton University at 4:00 p.m.
