Dover, DE --- The Delaware State women's basketball team opened a four-game homestand with a 55-37 wire-to-wire win over Bethune-Cookman in Memorial Hall Saturday afternoon. The Lady Hornets won for the fourth time in five games to improve to 14-13 overall and 9-4 in the MEAC. DSU began the day in a three-way tie with Morgan State and UMES for third place in the league standings. Bethune-Cookman has lost four straight and 14 of the last 15 to fall to 4-21 and 1-12. Delaware State also won for the 11th straight time in the series. Katreem Palmer was high scorer for the Lady Hornets with 13 points, while Raquel Collier added 12. Keturah Newkirk was the only Bethune-Cookman player in double figures with 12 points. Delaware State nailed a season high eight three-point field goals, shooting eight-for-12 from beyond the arc.   Selena Galloway had led the way with three three-pointers (3-5), while Palmer and Ashlee Burbage had two each. The Lady Hornets were ahead 12-1 after nine minutes, and opened up an 18-3 lead on a three-pointer by Burbage with 8:05 left in the half. Brittany Washington hit two free throws with 11 seconds left in the half to give DSU a 30-7 lead at the break. Burbage,  Collier and Galloway led the Lady Hornets with six points each in the first half. Bethune-Cookman hit just three-of-24 first half shots (12.5%), including misses on each of four three-point attempts. Delaware State returns to action on Monday (Feb. 25) against Florida A&M. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
