COLD SHOOTING LADY HORNETS FALL TO ST. PETER?S

SECOND HALF COLLAPSE DOOMS LADY HORNETS AT WM. & MARY

Williamsburg, Va.  --- The Delaware State women's basketball team led at the half, but faltered in the final 20 minutes of a 54-41 loss to William & Mary at Kaplan Arena Sunday afternoon. The Lady Hornets dropped their third straight game to fall to 1-3 on the season, while the Tribe has won three in the row to improve to 3-1.

 

Delaware State led by as many as eight points in the first half, and by five in the early stages of the second half before William & Mary stormed back.

 

The Lady Hornets were 14-of-52 from the field (26.9%), including just 6-for-27 (22.2%) in the second half.

William & Mary hit 14 of its 25 second half shots (56%), while outscoring DSU 35-21 in the final 20 minutes.

 

Selena Galloway was the only Delaware State player in double figures with 10 points. Sonia Johnson came off the bench to tally eight points and five rebounds. Thea Littlepage led the Lady Hornets with nine rebounds.

 

William & Mary's Dani Kell led all players with 15 points. She also dished out five assists . Tiffany Benson recorded a “double-double” for the Tribe, collecting 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

 

Delaware State led 13-5 after Johnson capped off an 8-0 run with a three-point basket with 12:05 left in the first half.

 

The Lady Hornets led 20-14 before William & Mary scored the last five points of the first half to cut DSU's lead to 20-19 at the break.

 

Delaware State scored the first five points of the second half, and opened up a 24-19 lead on a lay up by Littlepage with 19:06 left to play.

 

The score was 31-31 when William & Mary took control of the game. Janine Aldridge capped off a 13-1 run with a three-pointer to give the Tribe a 44-32 lead with 7:06 remaining in the game.

 

The Lady Hornets were 0-for-5 from the field, while committing two turnovers during the William & Mary surge.

 

Delaware State could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

 

The Lady Hornets will be idle until next Sunday (Nov. 30), when they visit Navy in Annapolis, Md. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
