Annapolis, Md. (October 6, 2008) ? The Navy Mids (9-3-1, 1-0) proved to the DSU soccer team why they are the defending Patriot League Champions, as they downed the Hornets, 5-0. With the loss, the Hornets fall to 2-8-1 (0-1 in USC) on the season.
Four of the five Navy goals were scored in the first half. Carissa Youlker added two of those goals (fourth and fifth this season) to help the Mids take an early lead and they would never look back. Kristen Laraway would also add her fifth goal of the season in the first half. She now has 13 points in 13 contests this season.
Navy showed a balanced offensive attack and a potent defense as they out shot DSU 13-1 in the first half and 14-1 in the second.
GK Beth Reed played most of the game for the Mids and didn't allow a goal in her 47 minutes in the net. She has only allowed two goals in six appearances this season. (0.69 GAA)
DSU GK Courtney Haas was extremely busy in net, but managed to stop six shots. She now has 96 saves in 11 appearances so far.
Danielle Miller tallied the lone shot on goal, for the Hornets.
The Hornets will look to rebound by getting back into conference play, as they return to Alumni Stadium, October 12, to face Utah Valley State. Game time is set for 5 p.m. Before the match, DSU will honor their five seniors. (
